We are proud to feature tours of the native greater prairie-chicken and sharptail grouse during their breeding season here on the ranch. These striking birds perform an outstanding dancing display when wooing mates, drumming, jumping, sparring and filling their colorful air sacs in efforts to move themselves up in the hierarchy and gain the attention of hens.
Other birds that are commonly sighted here include bald eagles, burrowing owls, long-eared owls, ferruginous hawks, northern harriers, long-billed curlews, waterbirds, western meadowlarks and other small songbirds.
Birding and Ranch Tour Package
This new two night package is in response to many requests from guests over the past few years and we are excited to be able to offer this specialized opportunity! After viewing the prairie chicken or grouse the first morning you will be taken on our ranch tour by a member of the Switzer family. After lunch we’ll continue to explore the area making stops to view burrowing owls and prairie dogs, eagle nesting sites and other species. Be sure to let us know if there's a particular species you're interested in seeing. After supper guests can gather around a cozy campfire and discover why the Sandhills area is perfect for star gazing. The next morning we will venture out again to view prairie chickens or grouse.
Price: $250 per person plus tax
